Hy-Vee Important Notes For AOL Users Hy-Vee

To access Online Shopping you will need to use AOL's 32-bit version software. Currently we support the 32-bit AOL version 4.0 and 5.0 browsers.

At the present time AOL has several different versions:

AMERICA ONLINE FOR WINDOWS
95/98 Version 5.0 Download size: (file size varies between 9.6MB and 24.5MB)
"AOL's newest version, 5.0, is Y2K compliant and is available now."

AMERICA ONLINE FOR WINDOWS 95/98 Version 4.0
Download size: (file size varies between 9.6MB and 24.5MB)

AMERICA ONLINE FOR WINDOWS 3.1 Version 4.0
Download size: (approx. 6.7 MB) (Not compatible.)

AMERICA ONLINE FOR MACINTOSH Version 4.0
Download size: (approx. 17 MB)

AMERICA ONLINE FOR MACINTOSH
Version 5.0 Download Size: (approx. 8.5 MB)

For information on how to make your AOL software Y2K compliant:
Sign on to the service with your normal AOL software and use keyword: Year 2000.

Windows 16-bit and 32-bit version information:
The 16-bit version does not support JavaScript and has no Java controls under preferences.
The 32-bit version does support the newer JavaScript and has Java controls under preferences.
AXIS Online Shopping uses JavaScript to perform input validation and requires this capability. There should be no problems with the 32-bit version.

If you are a Windows 3.1 user, your operating system supports only the 16-bit version of the AOL Software and will not work with Online Shopping. You will need to upgrade to a 32-bit version. However, if you are using an older computer, you may need to check with the manufacturer to see if you need to upgrade your system. You will be able to run the 32-bit version of the AOL software if you are using Windows 95 and above..

Macintosh information:
America Online For Macintosh Version 4.0 will work with Online Shopping. The minimum system requirements recommended by AOL are as follows: 32 megs of ram, 7.5.3 operating system, 30 megs of disk space, a 56kb modem, PowerPC or a 68040 processor. (This software will run on an IMAC using 8.3 operating system.)

Alternative Suggestions:
Download Netscape Communicator 4.7 or Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 (these browsers have the latest JavaScript engines and are Y2K compliant.), and use either of these as your browser. AOL will allow you to log on, -minimize, and then open one of these browsers.

3) At the present time there are two versions of AOL browsers out for the Macintosh, version 2.7 and 3.x. The 3.x versions of the browser are similar in appearance to the 32-bit Windows 95 browser, and they have a BLUE icon; the 2.7 browser has a GOLD icon. There have been some patches made to 3.0, which has been re-released as 3.0.1. Unfortunately, all of these browsers are incompatible with the Hy-Vee Home Shopping System, because none of them have the ability to handle JavaScnpt. As of October 1997, if the End User downloads a browser off the AOL Web site, they will download the 3.0.1 version. You cannot use this browser with the Hy-Vee Home Shoploing System.

The solution to the problem is to run Natescape or Microsotf as the browser which can be found by clicking their Icon on above.

4) If you encounter poblems wttb AOL there are two possible solutions:

1. Download Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Intemet Exlorer (or any other browser that supports JavaScript) and use that as the browser. AOL allows the End User to log on and then open a new browser.

2. Use another Interact service provider (besudes AOL) that supports a browser that can use JavScript.

5) Tltis beta release for the Macintosh does not work with the Hy-Vee Home Shopping System. The solution to the problem is to run Netscape as the browser, wlsich can be found by clicldng their Icon above or on our Shop At Home Page.
